In an effort to get more parents involved four years ago, Alvarado High School invited its students’ parents on to the campus to experience the life of a high school student.
After beginning with 200 parents the first year, Freaky Friday neared 500 parents last Friday as parents had an opportunity to visit classes and a pep rally.
“We had a tremendous group of parents, guardians and guests this year at Freaky Friday,” AHS principal Kenneth Estes said. “With over 400 documented guests, we had our largest crowd ever. Everyone seemed to have a great time going to classes, moving through the halls and experiencing ‘high school life’ again.”
Freaky Friday has served as an example that other school districts have adopted.
“AHS has presented at the state and national Secondary Principal’s Conference over the last three years and we have published two articles on the topic,” Estes said. “We know of at least two schools that will host a Freaky Friday this year.”
